Bikini Waxing Tips

Feeling dread when getting a wax is normal, but here are some bikini waxing tips to help ease some of the anxiety.  When you make your appointment, make sure there’s enough hair length.  For a wax to be successful, the ideal length is about a quarter of an inch.  It’s easier to do a bikini wax when there’s adequate hair for the wax to grab on to.  If it’s too short, the procedure won’t work as well and likely be more uncomfortable from having to make multiple attempts.  Also, while this may be obvious it needs to be said, don’t schedule a wax during your period.  The first reason is obvious, but second to that, the bikini area is much more sensitive during that time of the month, and having it waxed so make the experience much worse.

On the day of the appointment, take a shower before hand.  Wax adheres best to clean dry surfaces so don’t head to the spa straight from the gym or anything like that.  To avoid cross contamination, spas either use individual jars of wax for each person, or have a big tub and use a new wooden spatula for each dip.  If you spa uses the latter, make sure your esthetician isn’t double dipping.

After a bikini wax session, don’t be surprised if you feel a bit tender – this is normal.  However, while your skin is recuperating, avoid really hot showers, baths, hot tubs, etc.  Warm waters will be more soothing and less shocking.  Keep this in mind if you have a beach trip coming up.  Do any waxing a few days before heading to the shores so that you give your skin time to feel back to normal.  When you do bath, use a loofah to exfoliate the waxed area.  This helps to avoid the growth of annoying ingrown hairs. With any service you have done, make sure you like the facility and are comfortable with its staff.  This will go a long way in easing any anxiety.
